The versatility of Alarm Will Sound allows it to take on music from a wide variety of styles. Its repertoire ranges from the European avant garde to pop-influenced American works. The group fosters close relationships with composers and is committed to music by ensemble members and other emerging voices. The ensemble is especially interested in performances that incorporate theatrical and multimedia elements, and is preparing a fully-staged production of John Cage's Song Books. Alarm Will Sound's concerts may feature the entire band or smaller subsets, and often include guest performers from a variety of disciplines.
Members of the ensemble began playing together while studying at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. With diverse experience in composition, improvisation, jazz and popular styles, early music, and world musics, they bring intelligence and a sense of adventure to all their performances. "These are musicians to watch," heralds the American Record Guide.
