Tayatha is the latest offering from Tibetan singer Yungchen Lhamo and Russian pianist Anton Batagov -- an improvised meditation on Buddhist philosophy and post-minimalism that marks a bold new direction for Lhamo, who is known for her critically acclaimed work with Peter Gabriel's Real World label and her high-profile collaborations with Natalie Merchant and Annie Lennox, among others.
Q2 Music is currently streaming Tayatha as their Album of the Week. "[Lhamo's] voice is a jewel, a dark-hued gem, and Batagov's simple setting shows it off to its greatest advantage," says Q2 contributor Daniel Stephen Johnson. We happen to agree, and we think you will too.
