Michael Gordon: '8' for Cello Octet Amsterdam (world premiere)//'House Music' for Ashley Bathgate (world premiere)

For New York composer Michael Gordon, minimal music holds no secrets. Over the course of 30 years, he turned the minimal idiom completely inside out and found his own composing language. Gordon’s language could still be called ‘minimal music’ but sounds nothing like Reich, Glass, or Louis Andriessen, the foremost inspirer of the three Bang on a Can composers. The composer wants this new work – which lasts an hour – to be performed in an intimate setting ‘with the audience seated around it.’ The Muziekgebouw’s Grote Zaal will be specially adapted for this performance.
