Glenn Kotche presents four nights of intimate, innovative and audience interactive workshops in composition, drumming, and sound art / instrument making culminating in a concert performance in the Old Town School of Folk Music's acoustically acclaimed Maurer Hall on Friday, November 7th.
In this workshop, Glenn will demonstrate his disparate approaches to composition. The discussion will include his approach to writing for classical groups (Kronos Quartet, eighth blackbird, Bang on A Can, Maya Beiser and Jeff Zeigler), percussion groups (So Percussion and Third Coast Percussion), and his own solo percussion works. He will also demonstrate how he incorporates extended techniques on various percussion instruments to create new sounds for his pieces. A Q&A will follow his conversation - some familiarity with music composition is suggested.
